Crytek Gauging Demand For TimeSplitters 4 on Twitter

Source - xbox360a.org

We'll clear this one up for Crytek right now and save the studio the hassle. YES. Pretty much everyone wants TimeSplitters 4, and has been wanting TimeSplitters 4 for the best part of seven years. Still, despite a clear demand for the game, Crytek Founder and CEO Cevat Yerli has been putting out the feelers on Twitter in an effort to get a handle on the community's feelings about a new TimeSplitters.

"I had 2 interviews that provoked this question, how big is the Timesplitters Community? Let me hear you!! TS2 rocks, one of my alltime favs!" Yerli tweeted in response to an earlier conversation on a TimeSplitters forum. We suggest getting on Twitter and pestering Yerli to get on the case and sort TimeSplitters 4 out sharpish.

Crytek had recently announced that TimeSplitters 4 isn't in development, stating that it had been the iconic TimeSplitters monkeys doing all the teasing. "In short, the experiment was to implement the infinite monkey theorem. With cloning being a far too expensive option, we spent all of the development budget on buying monkeys on the black market," Crytek's tongue-in-cheek statement read.

"Those seven monkeys are now sat in a room with typewriters and lots of mirrors, and we fully expect Timesplitters 4 to be finished soon. Rumours are that they haven't written any code but just tease the press from time to time. Those damn monkeys."

Here's hoping that Yerli's latest tweet is just the first signs that TimeSplitters 4 is in the offing soon. Fingers crossed that those monkey's get it sorted.

PlayStation 4 could be in the pipeline

news.com.au

JAPANESE electronics giant Sony said it has stopped producing its PlayStation 2 consoles in Japan, fuelling online rumours a PlayStation 4 is in the pipeline.

Since launching in 2000 the PlayStation 2 (PS2), which has a Blu-ray player, has sold more than 150 million units worldwide, making it the best selling console of all time and was so popular it outsold the its replacement for the first three years.

Shipments have been "completed" for the hardware of PS2, the Japanese website of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. said with no further comment. The firm did not say what its plans were for production in other parts of the world.

Software for the console is expected to continue being produced.

The announcement sent gamers posting messages online, with some surprised the PS2 was still being made.

The news has sparked rumours that embattled Sony, which has been hit by falling sales owing to the popularity of games on smartphones, is planning a PlayStation 4, more than six years since launching the PS3.

Microsoft Begins Countdown to Next Xbox?

Source - xbox360a

Last night Microsoft director of programming Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb posted a live countdown on his blog, pointing to E3 2013.

Which is unusual, right? Countdowns to E3 are not something platform holders usually get involved with. E3 is just E3 and that’s it. No fuss.

But E3 is quite a big deal if you’re announcing a new console though. E3 is huge if you intend on unveiling the Xbox 720 (or whatever it's called), and that’s what is widely believed to be happening.

For months outlets have been suggesting that Microsoft will kick off the next-gen at E3 this year and the countdown, accompanied by the tease “and it’s on...” is the nearest we’ve had to confirmation.

So be excited! 158 days to go.

Microsoft is tipped to use the EA gaming show to launch a new Xbox 720, the news comes hours after the Company is believed to have acquired a US start-up firm id8 Group R2 Studios that specialises in home-media, entertainment and automaton technology spanning heating lighting and security.

Insiders claim that the new Xbox 720 will deliver new Kinect-style voice and motion control the device will have a new graphics processor and built in and a Blu-ray player.

According to Reuters the automation company Microsoft is believed to have acquired recently, launched an Android application which can control AV, lighting, thermostats and security systems in a home by turning an Android smartphone into a touch-panel control system.

Citing a source "familiar with the situation," Microsoft has reportedly bought the start up for an undisclosed amount. The firm has also apparently purchase a number of patents from id8 that relate to controlling electronic devices and device interfaces.

Media reports late last year suggested that the start-up was in talks with firms including Microsoft, Google and Apple about potential purchases of the Silicon Valley-based company. However, details remained sketchy, and the talks were considered preliminary.

Is Dead Rising 3 Coming This Year?

xbox360a

Dead Rising 3 is - or was - in development, according to the latest reports.

The news comes from animation, design and VFX company Blur Studio, the outfit responsible for the title sequence of 2011‘s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, as well as a number of cinematics for video games including Dark Souls 2 and Halo 4.

According to the Linkedin profiles of a couple of Blur Studio employees (Noah Peterson and Jeremie Passerin), the company has produced as-yet unreleased cinematics for Dead Rising 3 and BioShock 3.

While BioShock 3 most likely refers to the upcoming (and announced) BioShock Infinite, Dead Rising 3 is a little more mysterious.

We haven’t heard anything on the subject since the tail end of 2011, when it was suggested that Dead Rising 3 was to star a mechanic called Rick.

According to that report the game would be set in Los Perdidos, California, a town not just overrun by zombies but also with a bomb at its centre waiting to explode.

Playing as Rick it’s your job to repair a plane and escape the town before it’s blown to bits. You can read a little more on the subject here and there's an image of Rick below.

Now, all of this stuff about Rick is uncorroborated, unofficial info. Indeed, even if it was true over 12 months ago it may not be now. A year is a long time in video game development.

All we do know for sure is that Capcom, most likely Capcom Vancouver, has put significant work into another Dead Rising sequel.

Warner Bros. Register Several Batman Arkham Universe Domains

Source - xbox360a

Warner Bros. has registered 15 new domain names that could relate to future Batman / Arkham titles.

Among the titles - registered by the publisher’s Domain manager MarkMonitor - are Arkham Universe, Batman Arkham Arises, Batman Arkham Origins and Batman Arkham Stories.

Back in July it was revealed that Arkham developer Rocksteady is considering a prequel story for its next Batman game. With a visual style inspired by the 1950s comics, the game would document the Caped Crusader’s very first meeting with the Joker.

It’s far from confirmed. Plus, the registration of website domains only offer a hint of Warner Bros.’ future intentions.

Indeed, last year it was reported that a movie is in the works based on the Arkham Asylum game, scheduled for a 2016 release. Time will tell what we end up with, but whatever way it pans out - more batman can only be a good thing.

Here’s the full list of domain registrations:

arkhamuniverse.com (Arkham Universe)
batmanarkahmuniverse.com (Batman Arkham Universe)
batmanarkhamarises.com (Batman Arkham Arises)
batmanarkhambegins.com (Batman Arkham Begins)
batmanarkhamdarkknight.com (Batman Arkham Dark Knight)
batmanarkhamknight.com (Batman Arkham Knight)
batmanarkhamlegend.com (Batman Arkham Legend)
batmanarkhamlegends.com (Batman Arkham Legends)
batmanarkhamnight.com (Batman Arkham Night)
batmanarkhamorigins.com (Batman Arkham Origins)
batmanarkhamstories.com (Batman Arkham Stories)
darkknightarkham.com (Dark Knight Arkham)
dcarkhamuniverse.com (DC Arkham Universe)
dcarkhamverse.com (DC Arkhamverse)
thearkhamuniverse.com (The Arkham Universe)

Is LucasArts Developing a Star Wars FPS?

Source - xbox360a

Online portfolios and CVs have revealed that LucasArts is developing an as-yet unannounced title.

Timothy Longo is the project’s Creative Director, a role he took up after leaving Crystal Dynamics as the Tomb Raider Franchise Director. He’s been working on the “unannounced project” since April 2011, according to his Linkedin page.

Longo previously worked at LucasArts for a decade, working his way up from QA to Game Director at the company. His CV encompasses work on Star Wars: Republic Commando, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, Star Wars: Jedi Knight, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and a whole bunch more.

Ben Ratan, who has previously worked on The Force Unleashed, its sequel, and Star Wars: 1313, is also currently working on the project, according to his online CV.

So what is it? It would seem unlikely to be Star Wars: First Assault, as leaving a job as Franchise Director on Tomb Raider to make an XBLA game seems like an odd move. We know it’s not Star Wars 1313 either.

Perhaps our strongest hint comes from the Linkedin profile of Edward Kay, who has been working at LucasArts since September 2011 on “an unannounced first person shooter project for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.” Kay was Lead Gameplay Designer on BulletStorm and worked on Wanted: Weapons of Fate and 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand.

A Star Wars FPS? Sounds plausible to us.
